Opening with an introduction by Martin Parr; Strangely Familiar by cult British photographer Peter Mitchell is a journey through Leeds in the 1970’s. It is a biopic of a city undergoing change. Peter was working as a truck driver at the time and whilst doing his rounds began shooting the factories and shops, all very formally using a stepladder. The work was exhibited at Tate Britain in the seminal ‘How We Are: Photographing Britain’ exhibition in 2007 but this book is the first time it has been published as a monograph with 47 colour plates, expertly printed onto matt paper which plays off the Peter’s texts beautifully.
